It is located in the outer east of Kherson region. It borders on Nyzhni Sirohozy district in the north, on Novoveselivka district of Zaporizhya region in the east, on Heniches’k and Novotroyits’k districts in the south and west. Migrants from Velyka and Mala Lepetykha, Bilozerka, Shulhivka and other villages, founded the district center in the twenties of the XIX century. They were attracted by endless fertile lands.
It is those lands, which constitute the basic resource of the district. It has advantageous conditions for development of plant-growing and animal husbandry. The dominant crops are winter wheat, spring barley, peas, sunflower and castor-oil plant. Vegetable crops, as well as melons and watermelons are grown here. There are favorable conditions for development of cattlebreeding, pig-breeding, sheep-breeding and poultryfarming. Irrigation creates promising possibilities for development of agricultural cattlebreeding. An irrigating main of the Kakhovka Irrigation System, which supplies the fields with the Dnipro water, passes across the south of the district.
The district has enough conditions for processing industry. It is represented by a creamery and a food flavoring factory, located in Ivanivka, output of which is in great demand. Attention will be paid to renovation of cotton growing in the future.
