It is located in the northern part of Kherson region in the basin of the Inhulets, a tributary of the Dnipro river. It is bounded by Shyrokivs’kyi district of Dnipropetrovs’k region in the north, by Novovorontsovka and Velykooleksandrivka districts of Kherson region in the east and south, by Bereznehuvate district of Mykolayiv region in the west. The districts' territory was crossed by different tribes as well, various traces were left by them here. In the later periods proximity to the Cossacks' outlaws (runaway Cossacks in Muscovite Russia) influenced life style of the local population. The Cossacks' winter camps became its centers. Vysokopillya was founded as a settlement of German colonists Kranau.
Agricultural manufacture constitutes a basis of the district's economy. The district has advantageous conditions for growing of winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower and vegetables. The Vysokopillya Food Flavoring Factory deals with processing of local raw materials. In the perspective the district's activity will be aimed at perfection of the sown area structure, taking into account modern demand for agricultural products, as well as at upgrading of these products. The district attracts by its cu ltural and historic achievements. Over 200 historic monuments, including 150 burial hills, are located in its territory. Vernacular arts as well as amateur creative activity are developed here.
